Tips On What Not To Put Into Your Dishwasher

A List of Things Suggested Not to Be Put In a Dishwasher

The list is long, but that needn’t put you off. Your day-to-day dishes, cookware, and utensils can safely be cleaned in your dishwasher. But, it is better to be safe than sorry, so be sure to check this list when you get your new machine.

Crystal: Dishwasher detergent and high heat can harm fine crystal by chipping or cracking it.

Good Knives: They will dull more quickly if you wash them in the dishwasher. And, the sharp metal can nick and cut the hard plastic in your dishwasher.

Cast Iron:They need more care than is available with your dishwasher. Follow the instructions that come with those items.
Wooden Pieces:Some wooden utensils can be washed in the dishwasher but check the label first. It may get warped or lose its finish.
Wooden Cutting Boards:See Wooden Pieces above. Hot water can cause the finish to dull and possibly warp the board. To clean your board, use a mixture of chlorine in the water to scrub it.

Copper:The color may get ruined and the finish can dull, so handwash them instead.
Garlic Press:Since garlic is sticky when it gets wet, bits of it can get stuck in the nooks and crannies of your dishwasher.
Nonstick Pans:Check the label because the risk of losing the non-stick quality exists if the pan is not dishwasher safe.
Burnt on Stains:If your cookware has burnt-on stains, the dishwasher will not get it out. In this case, good old fashion hand scrubbing is the way to go.

x

Plastic:Again, check the label. Some hard plastics may be inserted in a dishwasher, but put it on the top rack.
Any Aluminum:This may cause a black residue on the item and the other items that are washed with it. This applies to the disposal of aluminum pans, as well.
Gold Plated or Delicate China:The dishwasher may eat away at the gold or hand-painted designs, so it is safer not to wash them in the machine.
Insulated Mugs:The space between the outer and inner layers may fill with water.
Adhesives:Anything that has glue on it can ruin your dishwasher. So, remove any labels, etc.
