Buying a Dishwasher

If you're in the market for a new dishwasher, you'll want to make sure you get the best one for your household.

With so many different models and features available, it can be overwhelming to choose the right one. This guide will help you narrow down your options.

Here are some tips to help you choose the best dishwasher for your needs.

Dishwashers come in three types:

Built-in dishwashers are designed to fit and be installed under the countertop. Their design is finished only on the frontal panel, as the sides are planned to be surrounded by the existing kitchen cabinetry. These are the most common among dishwashers on the market.

Portable dishwashers, as their name states, are freestanding and stand independently from the kitchen cabinetry. They are usually placed on casters for extra convenience. These dishwashers include two hoses where one is connected to a faucet, bringing water to the appliance, and the other one is used to bring waste water back to the sink.

Dishwasher drawers come as a combo or a single dishwashing drawer unit. They are smaller in size and capacity and can work independently from one another. These appliances are often chosen in case of space shortage within the cabinetry or if smaller amounts of dishes are being washed.

The first thing you need to consider when buying a dishwasher is the size and capacity. Dishwashers come in different sizes, so it's important to choose one that fits your space. Measure the width, height, and depth of the area where you want to install the dishwasher to make sure you get the right size. Dishwashers come in two standard widths - 18 and 24 inches. While the width may vary, the standard height of a dishwasher is 34 inches and their depth is 24 inches.

Capacity is also important because it determines how many dishes you can wash at once. If you have a large family or frequently entertain guests, you'll want a dishwasher with a larger capacity. On the other hand, if you live alone or with just one other person, a smaller dishwasher may be sufficient. Dishwashers come in two standard widths - 18 and 24 inches. While the width may vary, the standard height of a dishwasher is 34 inches and their depth is 24 inches.

The next thing to consider is the cleaning performance of the dishwasher. Look for a dishwasher with multiple wash cycles and options so that you can choose the right one for the type of dishes you're washing. Some dishwashers even have sensors that detect how dirty your dishes are and adjust the wash cycle accordingly.

You should also look for a dishwasher with a high-quality filter to remove food particles and debris from the wash water. A good filter will ensure that your dishes come out clean and sparkly every time.

Next, consider the layout of your kitchen and the space available for a dishwasher.

If you have limited space, look for compact models that can fit under the counter or be mounted on the wall.

If you have more room to work with, you may want to opt for a larger freestanding model. There are also some built-in, panel-ready options available.

Noise Level

Dishwashers can be noisy, especially during the wash cycle. If you have an open-concept living space or frequently use your dishwasher at night, you'll want to choose a dishwasher with a low noise level. Look for dishwashers with noise ratings of 50 decibels or lower. These are the quietest dishwashers on the market and won't create a hassle for your other daily activities.

Energy Efficiency

Another important factor to consider is the energy efficiency of the dishwasher. Look for a dishwasher with an Energy Star rating, which means it meets certain standards for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. An energy-efficient dishwasher will save you money on your energy bills and help reduce your carbon footprint. It's also better for the environment as it uses less water and energy to wash your dishes.

Price

Depending on the size, type, features, and other conveniences a dishwasher may include, the prices of dishwashers on the market differ.

Some simpler standard built-in models can be found from $370 while more high-end fully equipped double drawer models go up to $2700.
